2026 Homecoming Week at EW!
by Sara Retta and Gwendolyn Sterling
Homecoming has always been a huge deal for Edmonds-Woodway High School. In earlier years, the Homecoming Assembly was a whopping two hours long and consisted of a float down Main Street as well as a full royal court. It’s been toned down over the years but remains a week students of all grades can look forward to. In case you missed it, here were the highlights of the week and the general consensus, which was that the 2026 Homecoming Week didn’t disappoint.

Like every year, each day of the week has a specific assigned dress-up theme. This year, EW students meet the increasingly absurd challenges with vigor. First, we had Music Day Monday. The halls were speckled with merchandise from a variety of different artists. Tame Impala hoodies, SZA T-Shirts, Noah Kahan crewnecks, and more could all be spotted. Next, we had Twin Tuesday. Friends and classmates planned in advance to arrive in the most perfect coordinated outfits. Wednesday was Wrong Occasions Only where students jumped at the opportunity to show up in their pajamas and slippers. Of course, our assembly day, a Thursday, was class colors. Finally, we finished off the week with Anything But a Backpack Day. Some highlights included a grocery store cart, a lawnmower, and a human child. The week’s general theme was EW Wrapped and each grade was given a different genre to base their dance and skit on for the schoolwide assembly.

On the day of the assembly, the gym walls were decked out in massive posters. A freshman banner read “FRESHMAN ROCKED.” The back of the senior section had famous pop album covers painted during poster painting.

The junior wall sported a massive “Choosin’ Juniors” banner, a noticeable twist on Ella Langley’s album cover. In terms of skits, the sophomore and freshman opted for a more Lip Dub-like interpretation, using Riptide by Vance Joy and a rock-medley of their own choosing, respectively. The juniors leaned into the spurs, cowboys, and tumbleweed of their country theme, filming a cowboy face-off storyline in downtown Edmonds that turned interactive! The senior skit had a nostalgic touch to it, with a montage of adorable baby pictures at the end. For activities, a volunteer from each grade mounted an inflatable horse and raced each other across the gym, with a senior victory. As a matter of fact, the seniors managed a general sweep with the exception of the skit, which the juniors managed to snag.

Now, let’s turn to the weekend! When it comes to homecoming, nothing pumps you up better than the big Homecoming Football Game! The game is usually held the day before the semi-formal dance. This year Edmonds-Woodway faced off against the Shorewood Stormrays on Friday, October 9th. Hundreds of students, parents, and community members gathered at the Edmonds Stadium to watch the long awaited game. Spectators arrived decked out in purple and green attire to show off their Edmonds-Woodway spirit! The stadiums roared with cheers from fans that could be heard from miles away! The energy was through the roof and everybody seemed excited to watch the Warriors bring it home. After a long hard fight, the Warriors sadly lost 42 – 14. Even though they lost, they went out with a bang, with amazing performances by the Edmonds-Woodway dance team, Pep Band, and cheerleaders.
A day many students look forward to is the Homecoming Dance. It is the last day of homecoming celebrations and it’s an understatement to say that Edmonds-Woodway goes all out. Student leaders and staff spend so much time decorating the school the day before to have it all decked out for the dance. As for the rest of the students, weeks were spent finding the perfect dresses and suits to fit the occasion, as well as coordinating groups. All the excitement and build up is evident when the students finally get to walk in! After dropping off their coats and bags, the students entered the packed Great Hall at 8:30pm on October 10th. The DJ played everything from 90s hits to the Billboard Hot 100, so everyone had something they could enjoy. The event was a lively two hours full of dancing, socializing, and anticipating yet another great year to come at Edmonds-Woodway!
